Race & Ad
My videography business where I mostly produce music videos
— Race & Advertisement
While looking at Civil Rights Era ads, I realized that a lot of the images being portrayed are pretty stereotypical. Realizing that these images are only in black marketed publications, I went into different publications to compare ads that sell the same things but are marketed to different groups.
As an extension of my research on representation in print advertisements, I made a similar piece but with commercials from the 60’s and 70’s. The 10 minute long video compares different marketed commercials along with clips from The Brady Bunch and Gilligan’s Island.
The video is a fun yet serious way to have a conversation about representation and the idea of “belonging”.
